If your crawl space has thin builder-grade plastic, torn liner, or a barrier that was never sealed properly to the walls, it's not protecting your home. We replace failed vapor barriers with heavy-duty 20-mil reinforced material designed for the long haul.
Walk the crawl space (or have us inspect). Visible tears, displaced sections, condensation on the underside of the plastic, musty smells, or thin builder-grade material (often 6-mil or less) all signal it's time to replace.
Heavier reinforced vapor barriers resist punctures during installation and over time, hold their seal better at seams, and stay in place when crawling traffic or settling shifts the floor. They're built to last decades, not years.
If only a small section of an otherwise solid liner is torn or displaced, we can patch it with matching material and proper sealing. But if the underlying liner is thin or has multiple failure points, full replacement is the better long-term answer.
Vapor barrier replacement is the core of any encapsulation, but we also do it as a standalone service. Even without full vent sealing or a dehumidifier, a proper heavy-duty barrier on the floor and walls is a major upgrade over thin builder plastic.
We walk your crawl space, take readings, and identify what's actually needed.
Itemized, clear, and quoted before we start any work.
Our crew handles every step, including cleanup and disposal.
We show you the finished work and explain what to watch for going forward.
For Middle Tennessee homes we recommend a minimum 12-mil reinforced barrier, with 20-mil reinforced as the long-term standard. Anything thinner than 10-mil is generally builder-grade and doesn't hold up.
Yes. A real installation runs the barrier up the foundation walls and fastens it mechanically — that's how you stop wall-to-floor moisture leakage. Floor-only installs leave a major gap in the seal.
If the rest of the liner is in good condition and properly sealed, yes — we can replace a damaged section. But if the underlying liner is thin or showing multiple problems, full replacement gives a much better long-term result.
